Although some social media sites discourage users from having multiple accounts, Instagram makes it easy for users to have more than one account on their platform.

In many ways, they even encourage users to have more than one account and you can easily switch between them in the official Instagram account.

But what are the pros of having multiple Instagram accounts? Just because Instagram makes this possible doesn’t mean that users should create multiple accounts unless there are some benefits to doing so.
So what are the pros of having multiple Instagram accounts? In this article, we will look at why users may choose to have more than one account and how this can be of benefit.
If you’re considering opening another Instagram account you may find a reason that suits you.
Let’s get started!
A Fresh Start
Many people may have started their Instagram account without much thought as to how it was going to be used. Instagram has changed a lot since it was first launched and is no longer just an app for sharing photos with friends.
The addition of stories and reels has made it more of a video-sharing platform than it once was and you may find that the early years of your Instagram account no longer reflect what you want your Instagram account to be.
If you’ve had your Instagram account for years, you may have had several large upheavals in your life. You may have changed jobs, moved home, or split from previous partners that are still featured in your account.
You will probably have followers from these times that you no longer speak to and don’t want to follow your account.
Creating a new Instagram account is the perfect way to start all over again. You can keep your old account under your old name and even continue to update this from time to time, while you use a new account as your regular account.
With the new account, you can aim for a new aesthetic or only invite the current people in your life.
Separate Aspects Of Your Life
Having more than one Instagram allows you to separate different aspects of your life. You can keep one account for friends and family while the other is kept for work colleagues or business connections.
This allows you to present two different versions of yourself to different audiences.
You can keep family photos or nights on the town for your family and friends and keep these less-professional photos away from your business colleagues that may not appreciate seeing you partying the night away!
Keep Things Private
This has some overlap with the previous point but is worthy of its own section as well. Instagram allows you to lock your account so that only people you approve can see your photos.
You can’t do this on individual photos, however, so either your entire feed is public or it is private.
Having two separate accounts makes it easier to decide which photos you want the world at large to see.
If you have young children and want to share their photos without strangers being able to see the photos, you can post these on a locked account that only friends and family have access to.
For other photos or videos that are less private, you can post these to a public account and get more engagement from across Instagram. Add a few hashtags to your public posts and who knows who will find your posts?
This is another great way to separate different aspects of your life as well. You can ensure that nobody from work sees posts that you don’t want them to see by posting them to your locked account.
Aim For Different Audiences

People use Instagram for a variety of different reasons. Although it may have begun as a way to share photos with family and friends, it has evolved into a social media platform that can be used for a variety of different purposes.
Many people on Instagram now curate their feeds so that it appeals to a niche audience instead of people they may know personally.
For example, Instagram makes it easy to share hobbies with like-minded people.
If you spend your weekends working on a classic car and want to connect with other people who have classic cars, you can make a second Instagram account full of photos and videos of your car (see also “7 Best Video Downloaders For Instagram“).
By using hashtags and the Instagram search, you can follow other car enthusiasts and soon, your feed will be filled with cars.
You won’t need to share any aspects of your life other than your love for classic cars and can build a following of other people who only want to see cars.
While your classic car Instagram flourishes and gets new followers and engagement, you can keep a second Instagram account for other personal posts (see also “How To See Liked Posts On Instagram“).
This also means that your family and friends don’t have to see your endless posts about your car unless they want to!
Sell Different Services
Having different Instagram accounts really comes into its own if you are running a business, however. This doesn’t have to be a large business either as many individuals that run a side hustle are able to take great advantage of multiple Instagram accounts.
As we mentioned earlier, you can easily make the divide between having a personal account and a business account to sell your products. Instagram allows you to embed links into photos so that your customers will be taken straight to your storefront.
However, you can also set up different Instagram accounts for different products or different audiences.
For example, if you have a clothing business where you both thrift and resell second-hand clothing while also making clothing from scratch, you may want to separate these two as they are likely to appeal to different audiences.
By having separate Instagram accounts you can really concentrate on appealing to a niche consumer base instead of trying to please a wider group of people.
How Many Instagram Accounts Are You Allowed To Have?
The great thing about having multiple Instagram accounts is that you don’t need to constantly log in and log out of the service in order to access them.
The official Instagram account allows you to add additional accounts to your app and you can just switch between them in a similar way to changing tabs in a web browser.
This does mean, however, that there is a limit to how many Instragam accounts you can be continuously logged into.
Currently, the maximum number of Instagram accounts you can have in one Instagram account is five.
You will need to use a different email address or Facebook profile for each account as well, so do keep this in mind.
How Do You Create A New Instagram Account?
Adding or creating a new Instagram account is pretty straightforward as long as you do have another email account or Facebook profile to use. Let’s look at how to do this.
The first step is to open your Instagram app and make sure that you’re logged into your main account.
Navigate to your profile page by pressing on the profile image in the bottom-right of the screen. It’s the last icon in the menu.
From here, tap on your user name at the top left-hand corner of the screen. You should see an arrow next to it that points down and this shows that there is a menu and options.
You will then get a pop-up that asks you to either ‘Try a New Account’ or ‘Add Account’.
If you already have an account, select the second option and follow the steps to ‘Log In to Existing Account.’ It will ask you for your password and your phone number, username, or email address.
If you don’t have an account, select the ‘Try a New Account’ option instead. You will then be asked to create a username. This needs to be a unique username but don’t worry, you can change it later if you change your mind!
On the next page, you will be given the option to share the login information that you use on your first account. This means that you don’t need to create a new password for the new account.
This is easier if the only person using both accounts is yourself, but if others may need to access one of the accounts you should not do this. Instead, select “Create Password Instead” at the bottom of the screen.
Add a phone number or email address that will be connected to the new account. Remember, this needs to be new and you will get an error message if you try to use the same email address twice.
